If you can't be at an award show to pick up the "buckle" yourself, having your wife do it for you is the next best thing.
Blake Shelton, it probably was even better that spouse
Miranda Lambert also announced his win Wednesday (June 5) at the 2013 CMT Music Awards.
She clearly was happy to name him the victor for Male Video of the Year for "Sure Be Cool If You Did," though it was evident from his absences at key moments earlier in the evening that he wouldn't be there.
Shelton "tried hard to get here," Lambert noted, explaining that the mentor on NBC's
"The Voice" was on a plane and had been working in Los Angeles. Alas, it didn't happen, but Lambert energized the moment with her enthusiastic delivery of one of the evening's most memorable lines:
"Honey, I'm drinkin' for two tonight!"
Capping that with an "I love you" to Shelton, Lambert also had her own CMT wins to celebrate. She scored Performance of the Year for "Over You" -- for which she thanked Shelton, a co-writer of the song -- then earned Female Video of the Year for "Mama's Broken Heart," which she had crooned earlier on the show.
Exactly one week after Lambert very tearfully rendered "The House That Built Me" at the "Healing in the Heartland:" concert Shelton organized to benefit Oklahoma tornado victims, a joyous and humorous Lambert was a nice sight. And, presumably, there is some drinkin' to be done.
