Colbert Super PAC tops $1 million in donations
Colbert also writes, "We raised it on my show and used it to materially influence the elections - in full accordance with the law. It's the way our founding fathers would have wanted it, if they had founded corporations instead of just a country."
He also includes in the letter to the Federal Election Commission, "Yeah! How you like me now, F.E.C? I'm rolling seven digits deep! I got 99 problems but a non-connected independent-expenditure only committee ain't one!'"
The entire submission form can be seen here in PDF format. Among the donations include $500 from the Lieutenant Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, who confirms to the New York Times that that is really him.
There are also two $250 donations from actors Laura San Giacomo and Bradley Whitford, though there is no confirmation yet that it is actually them. We wouldn't be surprised, however. There is also a donation of $1170 from WOI, the ABC affiliate out of West Des Moines, Iowa.
