Colton Dixon talks 'American Idol' tour and 'edgy' Christian albumAdd to Favorites | American Idol
"We're definitely planning to release [an album] by the end of the year, and it's gonna be in the Christian world," Dixon tells Zap2it. "It is Christian music, but not your typical contemporary Christian music. It's very artsy and edgy, which I love about it. It's very creative."
But if you want to hear Dixon before then, you can catch the 20-year-old singing three solo songs on tour. "You'll hear one that you know from the show," he says. "You'll hear one that you should know that I didn't do on the show but would have liked to. And you'll hear one that you don't know, period."
Although Dixon is excited to play for "Idol" fans across the country, he says he's particularly excited for his hometown show."I can't wait. It's gonna be so much fun. It's more towards the middle of the tour, but I can't wait to be in Nashville. August 12th. I've seen so many shows at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, and I've always wanted to play there. I'm pretty sure it's right at sold out. That's crazy! It's so crazy!"
The venues the "Idol" finalists are playing on tour are much bigger than the studio where they performed each week on the show, which is definitely nerve-wracking. "I have no idea what to expect. Hopefully, I'm blinded by the lights so I can't see anybody! That would be the ideal situation. I'm singing to a light. I can do that! Detroit on July 6th will really open our eyes to what we got into, and how crazy awesome all this is."
The "American Idol" begins July 6 in Detroit and will stop at 45 North American cities before wrapping up on September 21 in the Philippines.
