Comedian Mike Birbiglia joins 'The Fault in Our Stars' as Patrick
"The Fault in Our Stars" has found its Patrick. The film is currently shooting in Pittsburgh, and author John Green has announced that comedian Mike Birbiglia will play the previously uncast role of Patrick.
"So excited to announce that one of my all-time favorite comedians/humans, Mike Birbiglia (@birbigs), will play Patrick in the TFiOS movie," Green tweets. Birbiglia adds, "['The Fault in Our Stars'] by @realjohngreen is incredible. They're making a movie of it and I'm playing Patrick. Literally."
In "The Fault in Our Stars," Patrick is the leader of the cancer support group that main characters Hazel (Shailene Woodley) and Gus (Ansel Elgort) both attend. Patrick is a survivor of testicular cancer, but his overwhelming enthusiasm during the support meetings it met by skepticism from both Hazel and Gus. Considering his track record with films like "Sleepwalk with Me" and "Your Sister's Sister," Birbiglia seems like the perfect man for this job.
"The Fault in Our Stars" is directed by Josh Boone and also stars Laura Dern, Sam Trammell and Nat Wolff. Though an official release date has not been announced, the film is expected to hit theaters in 2014.
