Comic-Con 2013: Naveen Andrews joins 'Once Upon a Time in Wonderland,' surprises at panel

During the fairy-tale spinoff's Saturday morning (July 20) panel at Comic-Con, Andrews made a surprise appearance to reveal that he'd joined the cast and would be portraying the villainous Jafar, the infamous baddie from the 1992 Disney animated classic "Aladdin."

Andrews' surprise appearance was welcomed with major applause and screams. It appears TV fans have missed the actor since "Lost" went off the air. After playing Sayid for seven seasons on the trippy ABC drama, Andrews has only appeared in Syfy's "Sinbad."

The actor issued a statement to EW about the casting, saying, "I'm proud and thriller to be back with ABC on an exciting and unique new show! This role will be a real departure from any animated version because of the layered emotions and complexities involved with making him a real three-dimensional character."

"Wonderland" premieres Thursday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
