More than a week after rumors and tweets broke the news that Dan Harmon would be returning to "Community" for Season 5, NBC and Sony Pictures Television have officially confirmed that both Harmon and writer/producer Chris McKenna would be back.

The timing is good too. According to Dan Harmon, the writing of Season 5 was ready to begin.

NBC's announcement came via a very brief press release on Monday (June 10). Not only did this release confirm that the two men -- both veterans of the earlier seasons of "Community" -- would be back, but it also stated their new roles on the show. Harmon will be taking back the job of executive producer and showrunner for the show he created, while McKenna will be an executive producer. Harmon's reinstated position indicates that Season 4's showrunners, Moses Port and David Guarascio, may not be returning.

Although the fifth season of "Community" and its showrunner are now set, there is no date announced for the show's return on NBC. It's most likely that the limited run of 13 episodes will air midseason as Season 4 did.

Or we can just say that it will premiere on October 19. That's the safe bet.
