'Community's' Yvette Nicole Brown on playing Samuel L. Jackson filtered through Shirley

The big "Pulp Fiction" episode of "Community" airs this Thursday (March 24) on NBC. In the episode, Jeff ( Joel McHale) throws Abed ( Danny Pudi) a surprise "Pulp Fiction-themed" birthday party, but things don't go as planned.

When we caught up with star Yvette Nicole Brown at PaleyFest, she told us that putting on her costume was an eye-opening experience.

"My character is Samuel L. Jackson - with the mutton chops, and the suits, and the bad attitude," Brown tells Zap2it. "So, that's going to be a lot of fun. And I saw the picture of him as me and I swear it looked like my dad. I've never thought I looked like my dad in my life, but I looked in the mirror, that's my dad."

As if looking like her father wasn't striking enough, we asked her if she felt the essence of the tough-talking Jackson once she was in costume.

"I do. Samuel L. Jackson is the man. He's the man," she says. "And even though I'm a girl, I wanted to be the man. So, it's kind of Samuel filtered through Shirley's sweetness and properness."

We also spoke about this season's baby-daddy drama, Malcolm-Jamal Warner's return to the series, and her hopes for her character in Season 3.
