Back in February, "American Idol" runner-up Crystal Bowersox revealed that she would be portraying country legend Patsy Cline in a Broadway show about her life. Now, producers of "Always... Patsy Cline" are confirming the casting of Bowersox, with the show set to begin performances in July, People reports.
Directed by John Rando, whose previous productions include "Urinetown" and "The Toxic Avenger Musical," the show features 27 of Cline's hits, including "Walkin' After Midnight" and "I Fall To Pieces." The musical focuses on a friendship Cline had with a fan, played by Annette O'Toole, between 1961, and Patsy's death in 1963. During the songs, Bowersox will be accompanied by a live band.
This is Bowersox's first Broadway role. Though, after coming in second on the 2009 season of "American Idol," behind Lee DeWyze, she made a 2011 appearance on "Body of Proof."
Following previews in July, the play is expected to officially open in August. So far, exact dates and a theater have not been announced.
