"CSI: Cyber" has a new member of its regular cast -- James Van Der Beek will play FBI Agent Elijah Mundo when the show premieres during the 2014-2015 season on CBS.

Agent Mundo is described as an expert in battlefield forensics with experience in Afghanistan. Special Agent Avery Ryan (Patricia Arquette) recruits him for his "savant" abilities with regard to weaponry, vehicles and bombs. Also an "action junkie," Mundo is the type to put himself at risk -- quite the opposite of the psychology-oriented approach taken by Ryan.

"We are excited to welcome an actor of James Ver Der Beek's caliber to 'CSI: Cyber,'" says a statement from the show's executive producers. "Over his career, he has demonstrated a tremendous range of talent that makes him a perfect addition to our gifted cast."

Still best known for playing the title role on "Dawson's Creek" for six seasons, Van Der Beek's more recent work includes the series "Don't Trust the B--- in Apartment 23," "Mercy" and "Friends with Better Lives." The actor has also guest-starred on "How I Met Your Mother" and "Criminal Minds."
