Filming starts in just a few days, and The CW's "Shelter" pilot, from "One Tree Hill" scribe Mark Schwahn and J.J. Abrams, has finally found its lead. "Make It Or Break It's" Zachary Abel has been cast as series lead Mitch Taylor, a 23-year-old athlete who comes home for the summer hoping to reconnect with the girl he's been pining after all year.

Abel, best known for his role as Carter on "MIOBI," has had roles on "The Secret Circle" and "Awkward.

"Vampire Diaries" alum Trent Ford has also been cast in the pilot, as the short-tempered Tyler Green -- a past-his-peak rock star with a penchant for throwing appliances out of his hotel window and into the pool. In addition to a recurring role on "Vampire Diaries" in Season 2, Ford is known for "How To Deal" and a recurring role on "The West Wing." The casting was first reported by Deadline.
