The annual D23 Expo held by Disney is billed as their "ultimate fan event," think of it like Comic-Con, but just for Mickey Mouse and his ever-expanding family. There are panels, exhibits and experiences that any Disney fan would love to be a part of.
In addition to honoring the past, D23 also gives attendees a sneak peek at what's to come. The 2011 version of the event gave fans the first taste of footage from "Marvel's The Avengers." As for 2013, it was already announced that "Thor: The Dark World," "Tomorrowland" and "Saving Mr. Banks" will have a presence.
Disney has announced the first batch of names that will be attending the event, and the roster doesn't disappoint. D23 kicks off with an animation panel Friday (August 9), which will include Dane Cook appearing for "Planes", along with Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel promoting "Frozen." They'll be joined by Disney executives Bob Iger and John Lasseter, with more to be announced.
Saturday puts the focus on the studio's live action features. Jason Schwartzman and B. J. Novak will be appearing for "Saving Mr. Banks," with Ty Burrell representing "Muppets Most Wanted." Following that panel, the annual Disney Legends Awards Ceremony takes place, with guests including Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Tom Bergeron and more.
There's bound to be some exciting surprises planned for the 2013 expo. With a new "Star Wars" movie starting production in 2014, the event is the perfect place for an announcement or appearance related to the franchise's future. There could also be more Marvel news, following the "Guardians of the Galaxy" surprise at their Comic-Con 2013 panel.
