Dad carves pentagram on son on Dec. 12 'because it's a holy day'
One Texas man is definitely not winning father of the year in 2012. Brent Troy Bartel, 39, was arrested after the dad carved a pentagram on his son and then called a 911 dispatcher to inform them "I shed some innocent blood."
When asked for clarification, Bartel said, "I inscribed a pentagram on my son ... It's a holy day."
Bartel's wife also called 911 from a neighbor's house at around the same time to inform police that her husband was hurting their son, who is only 6-years-old. When cops arrived, they reportedly found the boy standing in his pajama pants with a pentagram carved on his back. It is said to be big enough to cover most of his back, and the child's blood was smeared on the house's front door.
Fortunately the wound wasn't deep enough to need stitches and the son is expected to recover physically. Bartel has been arrested and charged with assaulting his son, and Child Protective Services and a crime victim liaison are working with the wife and boy.
Bartel is being held on a $500,000 bond. It was believed he used a box cutter to carve the symbol on his son's back. He called 911 at 12:10 a.m. on Dec. 12 (or "12-12-12"). If we had to guess, he probably meant to make that call at 12:12 a.m. to stick with the day's theme.
