Dakota Fanning's first nude scene in 'Very Good Girls' was 'sensitive' for the 18-year-old actress
The coming of age drama recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and MTV News talked to Fanning -- and co-stars Elizabeth Olsen ("Martha Marcy May Marlene") and Boyd Holbrook ("The Host") -- about the very unnatural act of trying to be naturally sexy on screen.
"You're trying to represent something authentic and it's organic to the film," interviewer Josh Horowitz says as he attempts to ease into the sex-and-nudity questions.
"I've never done that before," Fanning explains. "And I'm very newly allowed to do that since I was 18, newly 18. It was kind of a sensitive thing but it's part of life."
"There's nothing comfortable about it," Olsen chimes in before quickly bowing out because she didn't actually participate in the film's racier scenes.
"As in life it's not always so perfect and glossy and seamless. It's quite awkward sometimes," Holbrook says about shooting the sex scenes and what they were trying to capture on screen. "It's all about the environment, you handle it and not take it too serious I guess."
But how nude is nude? When Vulture interviewed the stars at the Sundance premiere, Fanning admitted that audiences don't see exactly what they think they see in a skinnydipping scene. That's different from the sex scene MTV asked about, when the subject of body doubles never comes up.
For the record, "Very Good Girls" is the directorial debut of screenwriter Naomi Foner -- the mother of actors Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal. It received generally negative reviews at Sundance.
