'Dancing With the Stars': J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff on taking the trophy
"You've got to step up and believe in yourself," a beaming J.R. told us. He and Karina said they might go into weight lifting next after carrying the heavy trophies around the press line. "Failure is not falling down. It's refusing to get up."
He told us what's really next for him. "I'm going to write a book," he said. "I'm going to continue acting and motivational speaking. That's the biggest thing for me. I want to continue to share, not just this experience, but every experience that I've been through in my life with as many people as I can ... and from time to time, call up Karina and say, 'Let's meet up around the corner and let's do a little dance!"
He was really excited to be a part of Karina's win as well. "It's amazing. I mean, we all know. It's no secret. She's an amazing dancer. She's obviously very beautiful on the outside, but I'm here to say that she's one hundred million times as beautiful on the inside. She really is an amazing person and I'm just so grateful that I was able to be a part of the amazing journey to get her her first mirror ball trophy. She deserves it..
Karina told us that she already has a case with a light in her studio, ready for her trophy. She said there's another trophy there already, but it's getting moved out of the way. J.R. said, "Right now, I'm going to sleep with mine. Tuck it in, make sure it's cozy. I'm going to polish it every single morning. Every time I see this thing, I'm going to think of all the magical moments and all the memories that we've had on this show for 10 weeks."
Congratulations, J.R. and Karina! You deserve it!
