'Dancing With the Stars': Kirstie Alley's final performances

kirstie-alley-dwts-finals.jpg Kirstie Alley might have turned in the most surprising performance on Monday's (May 23) final "Dancing With the Stars" performance show. But was it among the night's best?

Like Chelsea Kane, who preceded her on the floor, Kirstie was given the samba as her judges' choice dance. It was very different in style from Chelsea's -- a fact the judges acknowledged -- but nearly as good, by their scorecards. Len Goodman said there was "a lovely naturalness about it." She scored three 9s from the judges for a total of 27.

The surprise came in her freestyle. Her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy said in a pre-taped piece that he was incorporating a few lifts because it was expected, but he may have been rope-a-doping a little, because their routine, which started off with a slower tempo, was as gymnastic as either of the other two finalists'.

The judges were surprised (maybe even a little shocked) and hugely appreciative of the effort, but they didn't award Kirstie and Maks any perfect scores. They earned another 27 to finish the night with a total of 54, five points behind co-leaders Chelsea and Hines Ward.
