'Dancing With the Stars': Kyle Massey surprised to be Season 11's last man standing
And not by chance. Kyle's progress, under the tutelage of partner Lacey Schwimmer, has possibly been the most noticeable of all the contestants, earning him higher scores each week and helping him become the season's first star to perform two encores. It's also got him into the top four, with nothing but women for company.
When Zap2it saw Kyle backstage after the Week 8 results show, we asked him if he ever thought he'd be in this position. "Absolutely not," he says. "I didn't even think I was going to make it through the first week, so when I did that... that was huge."
So does he feel any debt to his gender? "I have to hold it down for my manly men," he says, laughing, "my beards and my mustaches." (Not that he has one himself.)
Lacey is just as surprised by their endurance. And though the mirrorball trophy is clearly in her sights, the big goal for herself and her partner is to make it to the finale. "Next week, I feel like it's almost more important than the finals," she says. "If you can make into the finals, then you've already overcome everything. We're just crossing our fingers that we get to be there, and we're so thankful to get this far. Like he said, we thought we were going the first week."
"And every week after that," Kyle adds.
Next week they'll tackle the Samba and the Argentine Tango, two dances Kyle admits he knows nothing about. But even if he forgets their names between now and then, he promises to continue to take Lacey's direction.
