'Dancing with the Stars': Pro Lacey Schwimmer plots Kyle Massey's supremacy

dancing-with-the-stars-kyle-massey.jpgFew people probably expected actor Kyle Massey to hit the floor on the "Dancing with the Stars" premiere with as much unbridled enthusiasm as he did.

Aside from the judges' kvelling and tears for Jennifer Grey, Massey probably got the strongest (positive) reaction from them all night, with both Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli praising him to the point of near-inappropriate comments. He's only 19, guys.

One person who's equally surprised by the high scores -- a cumulative 23, tying them for second place -- is Massey's partner, "DWTS" pro and "So You Think You Can Dance" alum Lacey Schwimmer, who returned for Season 11 after sitting the last one out. Zap2it caught up with the happy couple just after the taping to talk about what went right their first night out.

"He was glowing out there," says Schwimmer. "He was on fire, and I'm super proud of him. We're still so shocked by the response -- not just the audience but the judges. But I think if people see him have fun, they're going enjoy his performance."

Schwimmer's confident, but warned Massey -- who, two hours after hitting the floor, had yet to stop glowing -- that the judges' scores were only part and the real gauge for their performance would come down during the results show.

"We've established that we've got personality, we've established that we can be creative and energetic and now we really need to hone in on technique," says Schwimmer. "That's the biggest thing -- especially with the judges, so we're gonna work on our posture, work on our feet and we're going to go for it."
