'Dancing With the Stars': Sabrina Bryan calls shocking elimination 'all too surreal - like a flashback'
It was even more shocking in this season's Week 6, since Sabrina and partner Louis Van Amstel nailed the competition's first perfect score Monday and topped the leaderboard in overall points.
"I knew as soon as we walked down those stairs," she told us backstage about the announcement that she, along with second-place scorer Apolo Ohno, was in jeopardy. "It just felt all too surreal -- like a flashback."
But she didn't know it earlier in the show when Brooke Burke Charvet brought up her previous stunning exit. (Sabrina's retort -- "Thank you for slapping me with that" -- seems even more appropriate now. Shame on you, Brooke.)
"I was trying to forget that whole experience," Sabrina shared. "Last night we weren't thinking about elimination -- we were thinking about dancing and performing, and it was real and it was raw and it was amazing."
"Obviously it sucks to go home -- no one's going to say it doesn't," she added. "But at the same time I feel accomplished."
Louis agrees. "I cried yesterday because she did more than I ever expected," he told us. "That no one takes away. It's special -- it's almost indescribable. That's why it's a tough moment."
Even though she's in "a happy place" in her life now, Sabrina says her elimination "is a stinger. 'Dancing With the Stars' is awesome. And would I want that damn sparkling mirror ball? Of course I do! Why did I sign up? Obviously I want it."
Instead, the partners are going to celebrate their experience with a nine-day cruise in the Caribbean in December. Meanwhile, Sabrina is going to console herself with a fellow eliminee.
"At this point I've got Joey Fatone calling me going, 'Where are we getting a drink tonight?' So I gotta hit him up real quick!"
