Darren Aronofsky bringing Margaret Atwood's 'MaddAdam' to HBO
The project is the first to spring from a development deal Aronofsky and his company, Protozoa Films, signed with HBO earlier this year, Deadline reports. It's based on Atwood's speculative-fiction trilogy of "Oryx and Crake," "Year of the Flood" and "MaddAdam."
All three books depict a near-future society dominated by mega-corporations and where genetic engineering is commonplace. It will take place before and after a pandemic wipes out most the human population and follow both the creators and survivors of the catastrophe.
Aronofsky will executive produce the series with Ari Handel Brandi-Ann Milbradt ("The Business"), Aronofsky's fiancee and the one who brought Atwood's novels to Protozoa. Atwood will be a consulting producer. Aronofsky is meeting with writers about the adaptation.
