Zap2it : In doing magic -- especially close-up magic on the street -- what have you learned about human nature?
David Blaine: Through magic, I'm lucky, I get to see only the best side of everybody. My point of view, through magic, is that everybody has an incredible childlike, innocent quality inside them, that we usually cover up. Or, we guard ourselves and put a mask on to protect ourselves, as we grow up. That's what I think I think the best part about magic is; you cut right through all that, and you see the best part of a person.
Zap2it: Doesn't handing people a puppy sometimes also do that?
David Blaine: Yep, puppies and good movies and good music cut through that. That's exactly right.
Zap2it : Now that you have a 3-year-old daughter, have you considered doing a magic show aimed at children?
David Blaine : That, I haven't figured out yet. Kids kind of live in that magical place. It's a different concept, but maybe I could do a magic segment for kids. I could imagine nothing more difficult than creating a magic show for kids. Even when I was 5 years old, I was always performing for adults. I never performed for other kids.
Zap2it : Not to encourage you, but are you planning any other death-defying physical challenges?
David Blaine: For right now, I've just been trying to put believable magic together. Then after this show, I'm going to put together a tour ... and bring it all across America to any place that will take me.
