David Spade appeared on "Good Day LA" to promote upcoming stand up comedy dates, but also spoke about his friend and on screen partner, the late Chris Farley.
While David and the hosts discuss how well Farley would have done on "SNL," portraying crack-smoking Toronto mayor Rob Ford, the real fun when they got to talking about "Tommy Boy."
The movie is filled with solid jokes and funny moments, one of the best being Farley's "fat guy in a little coat" song. It turns out that bit comes from the relationship between the two funny men.
Spade remembers, "When we shared shared an office, he would sit behind me and he didn't write or read, so he would be bored," Spade says. "He'd stand behind me and go, 'David, turn around.' I'd go, 'Dude, I'm busy.' He goes, 'Come on.' I'd go, 'If this is fat guy in a little coat, it's not funny. It's played out.' He goes, 'It's not. It's a whole different thing I got going.' Then he'd have my Levi jacket on and go, 'Fat guy in a little coat! Don't you give up on it!"
So they threw the joke into the movie at the last minute, as a nod to their office relationship, and it's stood the test of time. Spade's Farley impersonation is spot on, too.
