meagan-good-deception-nbc.jpg "Deception" is the new midseason drama premiering on NBC. It chronicles Joanna Locasto ( Meagan Good), a cop who returns to the family where she grew up as the daughter of their maid in order to now investigate the murder of daughter Vivian, Joanna's childhood friend.

"I'm always walking that thin line of actually having a relationship and growing up in those walls and not having seen them for 17 years with actually going back and being a cop," says Good on "Today."

"Today" host Willie Geist points out that perhaps the family is using her because of that relationship -- "They can pull some things on you, you might trust them in a way you shouldn't."

Good agrees that that is part of it.

"It's a little bit of both. They're also using me for healing, too," says Good. "It's very comforting for [Vivian's father] Robert to have me there because I was a childhood friend."

Creatively, Good says the show is so much fun for her because it has a little something for everyone.

"It's awesome. It's definitely a change, working every day and being [the star]," says Good. "I feel like I'm becoming better at my craft. I love the character. I love that I get a chance to do everything -- from action to drama, love triangle, it's a family drama, it's a procedural. You get your creative fix."

"Deception" premieres Monday night, Jan. 7, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Watch a preview below.
