Denise Richards cast in ABC Family drama pilot, 'Socio'

denise-richards-socio.jpg Denise Richards is joining the ABC Family pilot "Socio," the network announced Oct. 12.

Currently in preproduction, the drama series centers around teenager Danny Ryder ( Avan Jogia) returning home after serving five years in custody for murdering his aunt when he was 11. Richards will play his mother, Karen Ryder, once the town's ruling socialite but now forced to defend her son when a fellow student is killed shortly after his return.

Other cast members of "Socio" include Maddie Hasson and Kylie Bunbury as Danny's former best friends Jo and Lacey, and Kimberly Quinn ("Terriers," "House") as Jo's mother.

Gavin Polone is the executive producer of the pilot, written by Adam Milch ("Greek").

Richards can only hope "Socio" does as well as ex-husband Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management": FX recently ordered 90 more episodes of the comedy after its initial summer run.
