Dennis Rodman facing possible jail time for child and spousal support
Not only is he apparently broke and extremely sick due to his struggles with alcoholism, but an Orange County court commissioner told him on Tuesday (March 27) that he faces a possible 20-day jail sentence for contempt of court if he doesn't pay $860,000+ in child and spousal support to ex-wife Michelle Rodman by May 29, reports the Los Angeles Times.
In 2004, when Michelle sued Rodman for divorce, he sold his beach house and claimed he had $3.4 million in property and almost $1.5 million in stocks and bonds. But he also said at the time that living his rock star lifestyle cost him more than $30,000 a month. The couple has repeatedly tried to reconcile, but this latest filing for divorce looks to be the real thing.
And it appears that has caught up with him, as his lawyers are so far working pro-bono and his financial advisor Peggy Williams says, "In all honesty, Dennis, although a very sweet person, is an alcoholic. His sickness impacts his ability to get work ... This case, especially his wife filling for divorce, has put him on a binge that I have never seen before."
Rodman also has issues with the IRS. He withdrew his NBA pension for far below what it would eventually be worth to pay California taxes and still owes $350,000 in back taxes, according to court documents, though his lawyers say that number should be far less.
A rather sad state of affairs for a once-great NBA star. We wonder whatever happened with his topless women's basketball team ...
