'Desperate Housewives' death: What did you think of James Denton's violent exit?

desperate-housewives-james-denton.jpgSunday night's "Desperate Housewives" episode delivered a shocking twist -- well, sort of shocking. If you were following executive producer Marc Cherry's trial, you already knew that Mike Delfino ( James Denton) would die a violent death this week. Hopefully, though, some of you were still surprised when you watched it all go down.

Mike was gunned down by a mobster while on the porch of the home he shares with wife Susan ( Teri Hatcher). Susan and Mike haven't had a particularly easy romance since their attraction began in Season 1, when he was just the friendly neighborhood plumber. They ultimately married in Season 6.

The porch was a rather iconic location for the two, so his ultimate bloody death on the deck made for a rather twisted full-circle plot. "It was sort of fitting," Denton told EW when discussing his character's death. "Mike spends a lot of time in doorways. He hides in a lot of scenes in doorways. Lots of leaning in the door. My old house, Dana Delany's house, this house. It was kind of fitting that that's where he met his demise."

Now that the love of her life has died, it's hard to imagine that we'll be able to see Susan in a good place when the series finale airs in a few short weeks. "I do think people pull for Teri," Denton says. "I think Teri has this great on camera quality that they pull for her. Because of that, the audience might be very disappointed if she doesn't get a happier ending to her life."

It's certainly difficult to imagine where the laughs will come from on a show that's much more known for its dark humor than its outright tragedy. "It's going to be hard for [Teri] to play any comedy for the last six episodes," Denton adds.
