Zap2it: You went through a lot with this show, from it getting picked up to a firestorm of criticism about it showcasing Latinas as maids. How is it with a year's perspective?
Ana Ortiz: It was such a strange experience. I had such high hopes, and it has been such a roller coaster, from booking it. It was such an amazing feeling, and amazing ensemble. Then it didn't get picked up for ABC. Then moving here [to Lifetime] and getting the right home for it. Shouldn't we be telling the stories of the workers? Enough with rich people getting all they want. Let's show the workers' lives.
Zap2it: What was new for you this year?
Ana Ortiz: I've never played a wealthy character. I'm engaged to very old money.
Zap2it: What's one of the biggest secrets of this show?
Ana Ortiz: Tom Irwin (Adrian Powell) is one of the sexiest men alive. No one knows it except when you know him. I don't know why he isn't the biggest sex symbol.
Zap2it: What did you do on hiatus?
Ana Ortiz: I have a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old. I did that. I did an episode of "Revenge." I did an indie movie with Michael Urie.
Zap2it: How long can you see "Devious Maids" going?
Ana Ortiz: I can see it going and going. "Desperate Housewives" went for seven. "Ugly Betty" went for four. I felt so gypped! I feel like five is a really good number for a show. Maybe a year for each of the maids.
