Diablo Cody, Josh Schwartz team with FOX for drama 'Prodigy'
Diablo Cody has teamed up with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's Fake Empire for a new show at FOX. Called "Prodigy," the teen drama follows a 16-year-old genius who enrolls in her local high school to have an "experiment" at being a "normal" teen. Like Schwartz and Savage's best-known shows, this results in the main character "getting caught up in a whirlwind of romance and crime."
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that "Prodigy" received a script plus penalty commitment. Cody, known best for her debut comedy "Juno," will write the script.
Schwartz and Savage are executive producing the show through their ABC Studios-based Fake Banner company. It seems doubtful that they'll act as showrunners for this series, as they already have quite a few other projects they're producing under Fake Banner. "Prodigy" is of note, though, because it's the first time Schwartz and Savage have worked with FOX since "The OC" went off the air in 2007.
This isn't the first time Cody has teamed up with Fake Empire. Her directorial debut, called "Paradise" and due out Oct. 18, was backed from Schwartz and Savage's company. Her previous TV ventures include Showtime's "United States of Tara" and the ABC comedy "Alex + Amy." She also is working on a TBS talk show called "Me Time With Diablo Cody."
