Disney to open 'Avatar' theme park attractions

Oh boy, kids! Are you ready for the Jake Sully-go-round? Or how about the Giovanni Ribisi Churro Experience? And make sure to have your rain ponchos ready for the Sigourney-flume!

It was announced today (Sept. 20) that Disney is constructing an "Avatar" theme park as part of its Animal Kingdom in Orlando with plans to roll out attractions at other locations. Disney holds the global licensing rights to the Fox franchise and, with James Cameron on board, plans to turn Avatar from a 3-D experience into a...well...real-life 3-D experience.

According to Disney CEO Bob Iger, park-goers will "enter the Avatar universe and explore it first-hand." Avatar auteur James Cameron adds that "[the] Animal Kingdom is fantastic because it's so thematically aligned...We want to do things that maybe they haven't even thought of."

Construction will begin in 2013 with plans to open sometime after the Avatar sequels (to be released Christmas of 2014 and 2015).

And just as James Cameron was consulted to stop the BP oil spill, Cameron is going to go ahead and fix the job crisis for us as well. According to Disney theme park head Tom Staggs, "Avatar" attractions will create jobs in the "low single digit thousands."

So start saving your money and load up on blue face paint. We cannot wait to take our kids to see someone wearing a big plush Michelle Rodriguez suit!
