'Divergent': Ashley Judd joins cast in major role
Ashley Judd has secured one of the last major roles in the adaptation of the best-selling YA novel, THR reports. She'll be playing Shailene Woodley's mother.
The film, which also claims Kate Winslet, Theo James ("Golden Boy") and Mekhi Phifer ("E.R.") as cast members, is set in a dystopian future where people are divided into five distinct factions that focus on a core value (selflessness, intelligence, honesty, peacefulness and bravery). Woodley's character finds out that she isn't a member of any group and must find a way to stop a war between them.
The Summit/Lionsgate production began shooting earlier this week in Chicago. The film, directed by Neil Burger, is eyeing a March 2014 release date.
