It turns out brand new Doctor Peter Capaldi has a very special connection to the "Doctor Who" universe. Capaldi was a fan and friend of Jon Pertwee, the third Doctor, and reached out to the actor's family after his passing.

"My father was very fond of Peter and Peter is an extremely lovely gentleman," Sean Pertwee, the son of the late actor, says to PA (as reported by the Radio Times). "He was very kind to my family when my father passed away, he was big fan of my dad's actually."

When it was revealed that Capaldi would be stepping into the Doctor's shoes, it was good news for Pertwee and his family, who he says was "absolutely delighted." "I think he's going to bring some real gravitas and weight, which only comes with age," he adds.

As for Pertwee, he's headed to FOX's "Gotham," where he will portray Alfred Pennyworth, butler to a young Bruce Wayne.
