Something rare is happening to "Doctor Who" in Season 8. The series is welcoming it's first female director since the 2010 episode "Amy's Choice."

Veteran TV director Rachel Talalay ( "Haven," "Supernatural") will helm two episodes of season 8. She tells Film UFC (Via DoctorWhoTV) that she's been sworn to secrecy regarding the plot of her episodes but as a fan of the show she's having a great time taking selfies in the TARDIS.

Talalay will be only the second female director during Steven Moffat's time as showrunner. He's been criticized before for comments that could be construed as sexist regarding former companions and the possibility of a female Doctor

Is this a step step forward for the series? You'll have to tune into Season 8 of "Doctor Who" to find out.
