Karen Gillan, who starred on "Doctor Who" for several seasons as the Time Lord's companion Amy Pond, is joining the cast of Marvel Studios' upcoming adaptation of "Guardians of the Galaxy," according to THR.

Details surrounding Gillan's role weren't available, though it was reported that she will be playing the film's lead female villain, joining already cast male baddies Lee Pace ("Pushing Daisies") and Michael Rooker ("The Walking Dead").

The film, aiming for a late June shoot in the U.K. with James Gunn as director, is quickly filling up its cast roster. On Wednesday (May 29), it was reported that Glenn Close had been added to the cast that also includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista in lead roles.
