Does Sarah Michelle Gellar want a 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' movie?

Could there be a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie? The show's star, Sarah Michelle Gellar, addressed that question in a recent interview to promote her upcoming CBS show, "The Crazy Ones."

So does Gellar think a movie, possibly funded by Kickstarter, is a good idea? After all, "Veronica Mars" did it.

Alas, the fate might be different for "Buffy." It doesn't sound like anyone involved is planning a film in the near future. " Joss [Whedon] and I always talk about [a movie]," Gellar told E!Online. "But the thing with 'Buffy' is that 'Buffy' was a movie, and it ultimately didn't work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time."

Gellar was referring to the 1992 film, written by Whedon, that starred Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry.

This isn't to say that Sarah Michelle Gellar and others involved in the project wouldn't be interested if the stars aligned perfectly. "If there ever was the right story, we would do it," Gellar said. But the stars may have to align soon if anyone wants the old Buffy back in prime form. "At this point, the stake would be my walker and I would be hobbling in," Gellar noted.
