'Downton Abbey' Season 4 adds Gary Carr as musician Jack Ross

gary-carr-downton-abbey.jpg "Downton Abbey" announced back in February that it would be adding its first black character in musician Jack Ross, who was described in the casting notice as a "musician (singer) at an exclusive club in the 20s. He's black and very handsome. A real man (not a boy) with charm and charisma."

Now "Downton" has found its charming musician.

ITV has revealed that Gary Carr has been cast as Jack Ross. Carr has previously acted in U.K. series "Bluestone 42," "Death in Paradise" and "Silent Witness," but he is a relative unknown to U.S. viewers.

"We are delighted to introduce another fantastic, dynamic character to 'Downton Abbey'," says executive producer Gareth Neame. "His addition will bring interesting twists to the drama which we can't wait for viewers to see in series four."

Carr joins previously-announced new faces Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Joanna David, Dame Harriet Walter and Tom Cullen. "Downton Abbey" returns to the U.K. in September and the U.S. in January 2014.
