'Downton Abbey's' Hugh Bonneville: Season 3 has 'plenty of drama and plenty of tears'Add to Favorites | Downton Abbey
"Robert and Cora, there are things that happen that really test the strength of their relationship," says Bonneville. "The relationship deepens in a very profound way."
The Crawleys aren't the only relationship that will be tested, either.
"[Bates] has been reprieved from the death sentence, but it is life imprisonment," says Bonneville. "Anna is a very determined woman and she totally believes in his innocence, as does Robert. For all the laughs we have with Martha and Violet, it cuts back to the prison and the reality of that situation."
But it is this juxtaposition of light-hearted fun and serious drama that makes "Downton Abbey" so wonderful.
"[Creator Julian Fellowes] has been wonderful at weaving in the humor and the pathos. Plenty of drama and plenty of tears to come in Season 3," says Bonneville.
"Downton Abbey" airs Sunday nights on PBS.
