Well, we think Dr. Phil McGraw would tell you himself that one's actions can come back to haunt you. And in his case, it has. Emails showing that he tried to edge out his mentor and benefactor, Oprah Winfrey, on an interview have recently surfaced.
According to TMZ, documents submitted in a defamation lawsuit against Dr. Phil by two men in the Natalee Holloway case - in which the girl disappeared in Aruba - show the talk show host tried to beat Oprah to an interview with Holloway's mother, Beth, as well as keep their actions from the media queen's knowledge.
When someone from Dr. Phil's staff found out that Oprah had an interview booked with Beth already, the person wrote, "But we can OUT SCOOP Oprah & do the show w/ her first no matter what we find tomorrow we still have an interesting show - plus only YOU can really help."
Dr. Phil apparently liked the plan (and we're sure that last "brown-noser" comment didn't hurt).
He replied, "WE DEFINITELY NEED TO SCOOP THE DEAL SO IF WE NEED TO SHOOT THIS WEEK THEN LETS DO IT."
He then adds: "IF SHE [Beth] TELLS THE OPRAH PEOPLE ABOUT US THEY WILL LIKELY ATTEMPT TO DERAIL IT BY MOVING UP THEIR SCHEDULE."
The staff person then agreed not to say a word to "Oprah's peeps" and ended her email with, "Yippie scoopen the big O!!"
We're sure Oprah is steaming about this. Plus, no that staff person didn't call Oprah "big."
