Eileen Brennan dead: Oscar-nominated actress dies at 80
The actress' management company, Unified Management, tells TheWrap that Bennan passed away in a Burbank, CA hospice after a fight with bladder cancer.
Brennan's work in the Goldie Hawn comedy "Private Benjamin," as tough-talking drill captain Doreen Lewis, earned the actress an Oscar nomination in 1981. Following the film, she continued to portray the character for three seasons on CBS' TV adaptation, netting both an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
Other memorable roles in her lengthy filmography include worn-out Texas waitress Genevieve in Peter Bogdanovich's "The Last Picture Show" and Mrs. Peacock in the daffy 1985 film "Clue."
Brennan is survived by sons Sam and Patrick, daughter-in-law Jessica, sister Kate and grandchildren Liam and Maggie.
Our thoughts remain with Brennan's family and friends during their time of loss.
