Elena Kagan approved in 13-6 vote, moves closer to Supreme Court seat

elena-kagan-approved-2.jpg President Obama's Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan has won approval from the Senate Judiciary Committee. She's now one giant step closer to getting a lifetime seat on the highest court in the land.

If Kagan is confirmed by the Senate in early August, as she's predicted to, the Supreme court will have four Democratic judges for the first time since 1971. And for the first time in U.S. history, three of the nine justices will be women.
