Eliminated 'Project Runway' designer Gunner Deatherage was so 'over it'

gunnar-project-runway-eliminated.jpgDuring Gunnar Deatherage's final "Project Runway" critique, the 22-year-old designer did not seem very impressed by what the judges were telling him. The morning after his elimination, he tells Zap2it that he was definitely over the competition at that point.

"I was very much over it," he admits on a conference call with reporters. "The competition was wearing me down. I don't know. ... The only point I needed to prove was to myself. What was going to happen was going to happen and it was out of my hands at that point."

Not that he doesn't appreciate what he got from the entire "Project Runway" experience, especially having gotten cut from Season 9.

"I feel like I got exactly what I wanted out of this show. I feel like I pulled things out of it that I didn't ask for," he says. "Going into it originally it was about winning, and then a couple of challenges in I started to see what it was really about. I think that it was moreso about the closure from last time I was on the show and proving to myself that I do know what I'm doing."

Much was made of his on-show feud with fellow young designer Christopher, but Deatherage says the scene where they made up before his departure was 100 percent real. "We're not in touch, but there's absolutely no hard feelings."

Although Deatherage says his fellow bottom 2 designer Ven should probably have gone home instead -- "I definitely think his work was worse than mine was [that week]" -- he's happy with what he accomplished. "I'm proud I showed something different every time. I was proud of my piece."
