eliza-dushku-how-i-met-your-dad-gi.jpgCBS' pilot "How I Met Your Dad" is following in the footsteps of "How I Met Your Mother" in a number of ways. The spiritual spinoff will tell a similar story in a similar time-hopping way -- and maybe, just maybe, it will have a member of the Whedonverse in its cast.

Former "Dollhouse" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star Eliza Dushku told her 1.5 million Twitter followers Thursday (Feb. 20) that she's reading the pilot script for "How I Met Your Dad." Unsurprisingly, that bit of information caused a stir among her fans, so much so that Dushku followed up with a clarification.

"#Reading the pilot, folks. No announcement, just a first date -- perhaps this weekend," she writes. She adds, though, that she thinks the script, from "HIMYM" creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and "Up All Night" creator Emily Spivey, "IS kinda #badass."

Greta Gerwig has already been cast in "How I Met Your Dad" as Sally, the central character, a not-quite-grown-up woman who's realizing her year-old marriage may have been a bad idea. The other female lead in the pilot is Juliet, Sally's best friend and presumably the role Dushku would be up to play.

Juliet runs a successful fashion blog and is described as a "party girl" -- if Sally is the analog for Ted on "How I Met Your Mother," Juliet is the spinoff's Barney. And of course, it would mean that avowed "Buffy" fanboys Bays and Thomas would get to work with another actress from that show after nine seasons of "HIMYM" with Alyson Hannigan.

On paper, the part looks as if it might be a good fit for Dushku -- what do you think of the idea?
