Elizabeth Hurley starring in 'The Royals,' E!'s first original scripted series from 'One Tree Hill' creator
E! is getting into the scripted series game, and right out of the gate the network is promising major drama.
On Thursday (March 6), E! greenlit "The Royals," an hour-long original scripted series from producers of "One Tree Hill" and "Smallville." It is set to premiere in 2015.
The series focuses on a fictional British Royal family set in modern-day London. The family "inhabits a world of opulence and regal tradition that caters to any and every desire, but one that also comes with a price tag of duty, destiny and intense public scrutiny." The family must deal with secrets, romance and high-stakes politics.
"The Royals" stars Elizabeth Hurley, Vincent Regan, William Moseley, Alexandra Park, Tom Austen, Jake Maskall, Ukweli Roach and Oliver Milburn, and is executive produced, written and directed by Mark Schwahn ("One Tree Hill"). Brian Robbins and Joe Davola ("One Tree Hill," "Smallville") also executive produce.
With producers well versed in soapy drama and a cast led by Hurley playing a modern-day Queen, "The Royals" promises to be must-watch fare. If only the premiere wasn't so far away.
