Ellen DeGeneres addresses Portia de Rossi marriage tabloid rumors
Ellen DeGeneres addresses the rumors about her marriage to Portia de Rossi on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." Although tabloids have reported the relationship is on the rocks, DeGeneres herself was surprised to hear it. She talks about the issue on her monologue for the Wednesday (Dec. 11) show.
"It caught my eye because Portia and I were in the top right hand corner. And I thought, 'Oh that's so sweet, they're honoring us.' But then I read the headline underneath. And it said: 'Ellen and Portia Marriage Crumbles.' And I was like, 'Oh, what happened? They seemed so happy.' And then I was like, 'Wait, I'm Ellen.'"
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), DeGeneres found that the article in question had been ripped out of the magazine. "I'll never know what's tearing my marriage apart," she mock-complains.
Those people concerned that the tabloid stories are true can take heart in DeGeneres' indignation on the issue. Other than a bizarre argument about kangaroo pouches (watch the video for that one), the TV host points out that all is well in marriage land.
DeGeneres isn't sure how stories like this happen, but she definitely doesn't think her friends are leaking the rumors. "It's tricky because they quote 'a reliable source' or a 'good friend,'" DeGeneres says. "Because you know how many good friends would talk to tabloids. All your good friends would. Really -- if they want to make it more believable they should at least say 'Portia and Ellen's marriage crumbles,' according to a terrible, terrible friend."
For the most part, however, DeGeneres isn't troubled by these stories. "It's like if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear, who cares who wore it better? You know? I don't care."
Now, fans don't have to care much either.
