Ellen DeGeneres to receive Mark Twain humor award

ellen-degeneres-gi.jpgAfter a long and storied career of stand-up comedy, sitcoms, talk shows and film, Ellen DeGeneres is receiving the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.

DeGeneres is the 15th such recipient of the honor which is presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Past winners include Richard Pryor and Bob Newhart.

The daytime host, ever the funny woman, says upon learning she'll receive the award, "It's such an honor to receive the Mark Twain Prize. To get the same award that has been given to people like Bill Cosby, Tina Fey and Will Ferrell, it really makes me wonder...why didn't I get this sooner?"

DeGeneres will be honored in an Oct. 22 ceremony which will be taped for a later television broadcast.

Congrats to Ellen. You certainly earned it.
