"Orange Is the New Black" star Laverne Cox will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 2014 GLAAD Media Awards. Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page will present the award to Cox.

Given annually to a media professional and open member of the LGBT community who has made a significant impact in promoting equality, this is the first time that the Stephen F. Kolzak award will go to a transgender woman of color. On "Orange Is the New Black," Cox plays Sophia Burset, a transgender woman imprisoned for credit-card fraud. When she came out on Valentine's Day 2014, Page noted Cox as one of her inspirations in life.

"Laverne Cox has reshaped the way Americans see transgender people and raised the bar in diverse representations of the LGBT community in entertainment," GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis says  in a statement. "She is not only a talented actress, but a truly transformational leader in the LGBT equality movement. Through her tireless commitment to building understanding and acceptance through education and advocacy, Laverne is moving equality forward both on and off the screen."

Cox will receive her award on Wednesday, April 12.
