Ellie Kemper guest-hosts 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' as Ellen is out with the flu

Adorable Ellie Kemper, formerly of "The Office" and "Bridesmaids," is bringing "Ellen DeGeneres Show" viewers a special treat on Friday (Jan. 24) as she steps into the hosting shoes since Ellen is sick with the flu.

Not that it's a special treat that Ellen has the flu, but it's fun to see a guest host! Check out Ellie's monologue in the video above.

"I know what you're thinking ... Ellen sure does look different in person," Kemper jokes. "I'm here because unfortunately Ellen is sick. She has that terrible flu bug that's going around. It's bad. It's really sad. We've tented her and she'll be better soon."

She goes on to say she has no idea what she's doing and wonders if she's allowed to drink. "Ellen would want that. I'll do that backstage." Hee.

Kemper also says that when the show called and asked her to step in, she thought it was one of Ellen's infamous pranks.

"When they called me this morning and asked me to host, I thought of course that Ellen was trying to prank me," says Kemper. "I actually thought it was Ellen's most elaborate scare ever. But it turns out it's working because I am scared right now."

She also says that as an apology to everyone who showed up in the studio audience expecting to see the regular host, Ellen is going to invite them all back next holiday season for one of the 12 days of giveaways.

Ellie Kemper and a chance to come back for some awesome prizes? That's a good day for those audience members.
