Elton John: Miley Cyrus close to 'meltdown', Lady Gaga in 'a dangerous place'

Elton John isn't mincing words when it comes to pop stars Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga. In an interview with The Australian, John gives very candid and blunt comments about both artists, and the direction he thinks they're heading in.

"I look at Miley Cyrus and I see a meltdown waiting to happen," John says. He's not alone in that though, after her bizarre performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. Still, he notes that Miley's young and "she's got two records in the Top 20, so who is going to stop her?" Her former fiance Liam Hemsworth sure isn't, following the news that the couple have broken off their engagement.

Then there's Gaga, who Elton calls a friend. John says he's actually reached out to the "Applause" singer, but has been unsuccessful. "I'd like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can't get through to her. And there are times when you have to listen," he says. The problem he sees with her is simple, as Elton explains, "When your persona begins to take over your music and becomes more important, you enter a dangerous place. Once you have people around you who don't question you, you're in a dangerous place."

Whether either of them will listen to what Elton has to say remains to be seen. After all, they're both doing pretty well in their careers at the moment. Then again, John knows a thing or two about a long-lasting career, so maybe his words hold some weight.
