Elton John is clarifying some remarks he made about Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga, after their performances at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. In an interview he said Miley was "a meltdown waiting to happen" and claimed Gaga was in "a dangerous place." Now, while appearing on "Ellen," he's backtracking.

Elton maintains that he didn't really get Miley's VMAs performance, and even imitates the singer with his tongue hanging out. Still, he adds, "I've known her a long time. She's a big supporter of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. She's a terrific girl." He also says she won the VMAs as, "It was a controversial performance that got everyone talking ... And that's what it's supposed to do."

There is one thing about Miley that Elton is especially partial to. "I'll take her old boyfriend though," he jokes about Liam Hemsworth.

As for Gaga, Elton says he isn't worried about her in the least, reiterating that she's the godmother of his kids. Ellen didn't press him about the specific comments he made about Gaga becoming too much of her persona, so maybe everything is fine between the two.

John also says he's planning to marry his partner David Furnish, now that same sex marriage has been legalized by Parliament. "We won't have a big wedding because we've already done that with our Civil Partnership," he says of the eventual ceremony. "We're 20 years together this year and that's a long time."
