Emmys plan Robin Williams tributeAdd to Favorites | The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards
"With the tragic loss of Robin, we're trying to deal with that and figure out what to do in the right, appropriate and meaningful way," Mischer tells TV Guide magazine. "It's about what can we do to properly remember Robin and create perhaps an emotional moment about Robin, knowing all that he did for all of us who love entertainment and love comedy."
Mischer worked with Williams a number of times, directing his 1982 HBO special "An Evening with Robin Williams" and an episode of a 1977 "Laugh-In" revival that featured Williams in the cast. Williams also hosted and Mischer produced "Christopher Reeve: A Celebration of Hope," a TV special highlighting Reeve's efforts to rehabilitate after a severe spinal cord injury (Williams and Reeve were classmates at Juilliard and remained friends).
"He was born to perform," Mischer says of Williams. "It was the essence of what made him happy and gave him a sense of self-esteem and satisfaction. There's nobody else like that that I've ever worked with."
The Emmy Awards will air Monday, Aug. 25 on NBC.
