Emmys 2012: Which show should win for outstanding comedy series? Take our poll
First up: comedy. "Modern Family" is the two-time defending champ here, and the show didn't give the academy any reason to vote against it this year, despite being a bit more uneven than in the past (but mediocre "Family" is still better than most of what's out there). But for the first time in a while, this isn't a one-horse race.
"Girls" is the most talked-about comedy of 2012, and by the end of its first season, it showed that the hype was justified. Fellow HBO shows "Veep" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" both should get consideration, even though both flew under the radar a bit -- "Curb" because of the show's age and "Veep" because its lead-in, "Girls," got all the press.
"The Big Bang Theory" became more of an ensemble relationship comedy -- "Friends" for the rest of us, essentially -- so the academy might throw some votes their way. And you can't discount the presence of former top dog "30 Rock," especially now that the show is picking up steam as it chugs to what looks to be a pretty funny series finale.
Who do you think will bring home the Emmy? Vote in the poll below. The 64th annual Primetime Emmys, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, air live at 8 p.m. ET Sept. 23 on ABC.
