'Entourage' movie update: The script is almost finishedAdd to Favorites | Entourage
The "Entourage" finale aired one year ago on HBO (Sept. 11, 2011), but Ellin says the movie would pick up six months after the series ended: "There are interesting developments about Ari as a studio head, and that's still the first page for me. But foremost is the friendship between the guys who are still hanging out and going to fun parties, and it continues with the same characters."
As they confirmed in an August TV Critics Association session, HBO won't make a decision on whether to move forward with the movie until they read a completed script, and then they'd have to work out deals with stars Jeremy Piven, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon, Kevin Connolly and Jerry Ferrara to reprise their roles. But Ellin says he's feeling good about the movie's chances: "I'm excited. I feel a lot of positive energy. Everywhere I go, people ask me, 'Where's the movie?'"
Turning a TV series into a feature film is a risky proposition but there are big precedents for success ( "Star Trek," HBO's "Sex and the City") to counter the less fortunate disappointments ("Firefly" continuation "Serenity," the second "X-Files").
